Johnny is qualified to serve

Johnny was born John Stuart Moore in Columbus, Mississippi, in 1960 to John Paul and Evelyn Moore of Starkville. A lifelong resident of Starkville, Johnny graduated from Starkville Academy in 1978 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Professional Accounting from Mississippi State University in 1982. After graduation, Johnny followed in his father’s footsteps and attended law school at the University of Mississippi, attaining his Juris Doctorate in December 1984. Johnny was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1985 and joined his father, State Senator John Paul Moore, in his law practice, Moore Law Office, working side by side until John Paul’s death in 2011. Johnny continues to practice law at the same location on Lafayette Street, primarily dealing with real estate and probate law.

Johnny and Karen believe in giving back to the community

Johnny married Karen Johnson in 1982. Johnny and Karen are members of First Baptist Church where Karen previously helped in the church nursery. Karen graduated from Starkville High School and then went on to graduate from Mississippi State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She has continued her passion for working with children by caring for Johnny’s law associate’s daughters during the workday and also by becoming approved as a foster child caregiver. Together, Johnny and Karen raised four sons: Daniel Brent, Bradley Stuart, Bryce Denton, and David Alexander. Johnny and Karen also have one grandson, John Parker.

Johnny is a proven leader

Johnny is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association and the Oktibbeha County Bar Association, Johnny has also been involved in the Starkville community in several ways over the years. Johnny and Karen mentored numerous children from the Palmer Home and welcomed them out to their home to fish and hunt. Johnny coached Little League Baseball for ten years and served on the Board of Directors for the Starkville Little League Baseball Association. He also previously served Starkville Academy as a Member of the Board of Directors, past President of the Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Capital Campaign. Johnny was twice elected as a Mississippi delegate to the Modern Woodsmen of America’s National Delegation where he served as chairman of the Committee on the Agenda, as well as chairman of the By-Laws Committee. In addition, Johnny supports and contributes to the Starkville Pregnancy Care Center, Starkville Habitat for Humanity, and the American Cancer Society.

Johnny currently serves our city and county as counselor to our citizens suffering from alcohol and drug addiction and mental illness, and also serves as a counselor to Habitat for Humanity Homeowners.
